The shopping in and around Poulton-le-Fylde caters for all tastes. The town centre is home to high street names which sit alongside small independents, and here you’ll find supermarkets, food retailers, boutiques, banks, a post office, home wares – you name it!
If you enjoy a nice leisurely stroll around a pretty town centre, where you can buy the incidentals that you need, manage your administration, buy your food shopping for the week, with a few nice treats thrown in, then Poulton-le-Fylde is the place for you.
The shopping offer is quite varied with a good range of independents and high street names. Booths supermarket is in the centre of the town with its own car park so you won’t be expected to carry heavy bags back to a far-flung car park!
You’ll find fashion boutiques, outdoor clothes, home wares, local food outlets and gift shops. There is also good provision for all your household administration needs – with a good range of banks and building societies and a large Post Office – which is something that you can’t say for every high street in the UK!
Poulton is also easy to navigate, with shops cheek-by-jowl, so you won’t wear away your shoe leather covering miles of pavements to get to the shops that you need. The central area of town is pedestrianised so your smaller toddling charges can have a little run without fear of oncoming cars while you sit on one of the benches and enjoy an ice cream and people watching!
As of October 2011, this pedestrianised town centre saw the return of a weekly general market to Poulton for the first time in a number of years. A traditional market square which was alive with stalls in the past, rang out once again with the sound of trade at the first event on 26 October, with a hugely successful first day. Weekly markets are now held there on Monday come rain or shine, with a mixture of stalls including food, clothes, homewares and fancy goods.
The town centre is also easily accessible by all main transport types. There are several convenient car parking areas, the main bus stops are in the very centre of the town next to St Chad’s church, and the beautifully maintained railway station is just a very short walk from the main shopping area.
There are plenty of places to sit and catch your breath – maybe with a bite to eat thrown in. There are cafes and coffee shops and nice town centre bars for a daytime snack – or what about an award winning ice cream in the tranquillity of the church yard – but watch out for the squirrels!
Unusual in today’s society are the small runs of local shops which you’ll find all over the Fylde Coast, and Poulton is certainly no exception. It’s so handy to be able to buy the necessities of life without having to make a car journey, and keeps the local neighbourhood alive and vibrant.
For anyone embarking on a spot of home renovation there are some superb outlets in the area, for example at Poulton Industrial Estate and here you will find an exceptional range of good quality manufacturers and retailers side by side. Carpets, double glazing, fireplace centres, tile shops, and high-end bespoke hand-made kitchen manufacturers will enable you to create a home renovation project worthy of the best magazines!
