Poulton in Bloom really is a good example of a community working together to make a difference.
School children and churches come together with groups, volunteers and the public to each contribute towards a greater effect than they could achieve on their own.
Poulton in Bloom has achieved horticultural excellence over the years, taking the Silver Gilt award in the 2010 RHS North West in Bloom competition and many other awards over the years.
There are opportunities each year for local businesses to get involved – by helping out, donating materials or by providing sponsorship.
So whether you come through Poulton town centre on foot, visit any of the individual projects, or drive round the ring road you are sure to see a magnificent display of flowers – it’s enough to stop the traffic!
A huge effort is made throughout the year to raise funds for the In Bloom displays, including stalls at the Christmas Fayre and Poulton Gala in the summer. Coffee mornings and other fund raising events happen throughout the year.
The In Bloom competition encourages communities to develop their project and grow year on year, and that’s exactly what is happening at Poulton. Like a snowball rolling down a hill, each year more groups and individuals become involved, which creates more momentum and enables more to be achieved and makes the town look even better!
If you would like to get involved your help would be very welcome. You don’t have to be green fingered – there are many other ways in which your time and skills can be put to good use with an army of people required each year to contribute in different ways.
